Fire Force is one of those anime that I actually enjoyed a lot—but it’s definitely not perfect. The biggest thing carrying the show is easily the animation. David Production did an amazing job. The fire effects look insane, the sound design hits hard, and a lot of the fights feel super impactful. Characters like Shinra Kusakabe and Benimaru Shinmon have some really standout moments that are just fun to watch. When the show is locked in, it’s really good. I also liked the overall concept a lot. The idea of spontaneous human combustion and these fire soldiers having to put people to rest is actually pretty dark and interesting. Early on, it feels unique and kind of emotional in a way you don’t expect from a typical shonen. But the problem is the show isn’t always consistent. The tone can be all over the place. One second it’s dealing with death, religion, and suffering, and then out of nowhere it switches to fan service or comedy that just doesn’t fit. A character like Tamaki Kotatsu is probably the biggest example of that—it feels forced a lot of the time and kind of kills the tension in serious moments. Story-wise, it starts off simple enough, but then it gets pretty dense with all the Evangelist, Adolla Burst, and conspiracy stuff. It’s not bad, but it can feel a little rushed or not fully explained. Instead of building things slowly, the show sometimes just throws a lot at you at once. There are also parts—especially in the middle—that feel slower than they should. Some arcs drag a bit or don’t move the main story forward as much as you’d want. It’s not boring, but you can feel the pacing dip compared to the stronger moments. That being said, when the show picks back up, it really delivers. The bigger fights, reveals, and higher-stakes moments are genuinely exciting. And visually, it almost never disappoints. Overall, I liked Fire Force a lot. It has some really high highs—great animation, cool fights, and a unique concept—but it also has noticeable flaws with pacing, tone, and some unnecessary scenes. It’s not as tight or consistent as it could’ve been, but it’s still a solid watch.
